Think the Ottoman Experience
Interview with François Georgeon — Directeur de recherche émérite — CNRS (CETOBAC)
Ece Zerman — Doctorante — EHESS
Born during WWII, influenced by the Algerian war, this “colonial war which does not say so openly”, François Georgeon quickly became fascinated by the History of Turkey, his terra incognita. After being a student in history and in “oriental languages", he investigated turkish identity and, more broadly, the “living together” in the Ottoman empire. For the last few years he got interested in – among other things – the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Ottoman empire and kemalist Turkey.
